She falls under Dawn's spell and embraces the dissolute life of layabout teenagers, brushing ever closer to the inevitable tragedy to come. McLain alternates her vivid first-person account of Jamie's initially glorious summer with Raymond's recollections of his fraught relationship with Suzette, his younger sister and Jamie's mother. The echoes between past and present, Jamie and Suzette, and between Suzette and Fawn ring ever louder as the novel progresses, and protectors clash with those they vainly try to protect. McLain has a good ear for the dialogue of hormonally crazed, unpredictable teenagers. But 1970s childhoods are well-trod literary territory, and it feels as if this tale has already been told. (Jan.)

She is 15 in 1973, when her worldly wise cousin Fawn, 16, arrives to spend the summer with them. Insecure and lonely, Jamie loves the idea of having a live-in friend and she immediately falls under Fawn's spell. Wanting more than anything to have Fawn approve of her, Jamie begins to remake herself, and a foreboding sense of the future emerges. Woven throughout the story are flashbacks that shed light on the intense and disturbing relationship between Uncle Raymond and Jamie's mother, Suzette. The parallel stories of Suzette and Fawn shed light on two people who are both disturbed and manipulative. Raymond and Jamie are the victims of the manipulation, but McLain deftly conveys the poor choices each has made along the way. Beautiful writing makes vivid the stark malevolence of Fawn, and the foreshadowing of impending tragedy is so palpable it is frightening. Characters are well drawn and the prose magnificent. Wendy Heller is Professor of Music and Director of the Program in Italian Studies at Princeton University. She is the author of Emblems of Eloquence: Opera and Women's Voices in Seventeenth-Century Venice and articles published in the Journal of the American Musicological Society, Early Music, and Music & Letters. Heller’s writings have received awards from the American Musicological Society and the Society for the Study of Early Modern Women, and she has received grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Council of Learned Societies.

Walter Frisch is H. Harold Gumm/Harry and Albert von Tilzer Professor of Music at Columbia University. Many textbooks have been published on the subject of construction scheduling. Many of them provide excellent information on a variety of scheduling subjects. Unfortunately, they are often limited in their scope, often omitting scheduling subjects that might be of particular interest to the reader. This text is written to provide broad coverage on all major scheduling subjects.

My first employment with a construction contractor was a summer job in the 1960s. Although I was given many different assignments, I have vivid memories of the arrow diagram network that I was asked to draw by hand. Of course, I just had a class on the fundamentals of arrow diagramming, so the scheduling assignment was reasonably easy for me. A few years later while working for a different firm, my primary responsibility was scheduling. The scheduling effort was largely focused on the coordination of subcontractors on several different projects for which I used the precedence diagramming method. It was during this period that I developed a strong appreciation for the value of effective scheduling and the use of precedence diagrams.

There are many approaches to providing scheduling information. Some of these are described briefly in Chapter 1. This textbook is written with a major emphasis on precedence diagramming, with only the last chapter addressing arrow diagramming. Although I recognize that most scheduling is done with precedence diagrams, I also feel that an introduction to the subject of arrow diagramming is appropriate. In academic settings, I have found that students can grasp arrow diagramming more easily if they have not already been exposed to precedence diagrams. For this reason, instructors who plan to lecture on arrow diagrams should consider jumping to Chapter 16 after the first two chapters are covered. Chapter 3 explains the fundamentals of precedence diagrams. Regardless of the scheduling technique used, successfully using scheduling information is rooted in beginning with accurate time estimates for activity durations as discussed in Chapter 4.

One scheduling topic seldom addressed in scheduling texts, especially in detail, is that of contract provisions related to scheduling. This text devotes an entire chapter to this subject (Chapter 5). Resource leveling and resource allocation are described in Chapter 6. The impact of scheduling provisions on cash flow is also addressed (Chapter 7). Manual solutions are described for solving problems related to resource utilization and cash flow. Although such problems are often solved by computer, it is helpful for schedulers to understand the process of arriving at a solution in order to fully comprehend computer solutions.

Schedules are management tools and, as such, they should be used. It is through the proper use of schedules that management is able to make informed decisions about scheduling activities. This use includes updating the schedules when the schedule information ceases to be useful for making informed decisions. This process is described in Chapter 8.

Chapter 9 addresses computer applications. This chapter is not a user's manual, nor is it a proponent for any particular scheduling software. The more widely used software programs are described to some extent, but this is not to be construed as an endorsement of any particular product. The purpose of the chapter is to familiarize the reader with some of the basic scheduling concepts that are addressed by computer software.

Chapter 10 describes earned value concepts. Project schedules are generally adversely impacted by changes in the project. Chapter 11 provides information for quantifying such impacts. Although concepts of their use and application are simple, the subject warrants a discussion in any serious text on scheduling.

Linear scheduling (discussed in Chapter 14) is a relatively new scheduling technique used in the construction industry. Linear scheduling is a viable method on a variety of projects that would otherwise be difficult to schedule. Schedulers should consider the use of linear scheduling on projects that lend themselves to this technique. The use of probabilistic duration estimates is described in Chapter 15. Although the use of PERT is perhaps minimal in the construction industry, the basic concepts should be understood.

It is perhaps rare for a text to be written entirely by one person. I certainly can make no such claim. Others have provided valuable assistance in helping me compile all of the information for this text. Dr. Ian Flood also offered valuable comments as the initial text was being finalized. The efforts of Bruce Jamieson were instrumental in compiling the information on short-interval scheduling, and Rory McCarty contributed to the chapter on litigation. A considerable amount of the material on linear scheduling was developed by Greg Hanby, Phil Nelson, Brendan Kennedy, and H. C. Phillips. Dr. Robert Shawcroft contributed significantly by providing me with some scheduling class notes that eventually became part of this text. Devi expanded the universe even more than Matefinder and with all the twists and turns left me panting for more.One thing I really love about the Matefinder series that it's not sappy like so many of these books are. Yes, there's sex and flirting, but it's not all about pining over a lost love or gazing longingly into the eyes of another.Aurora's an in-your-face, don't mess with me kinda girl and I can't wait for another installment!

One day Aurora was just your very unaverage half witch-half wolf Matefinder. The next she is a Devi with two affinities and far more special than she ever wanted to be. Where book one centered mainly around Aurora's wolf side, book two delves greatly into her witch half and the multitude of deeper secrets that this half of her has to uncover. War is coming and Aurora will need ever possible advantage in hopes of defeating the vampires, as well as the wayward RAIDOS, but what she finds will be beyond her wildest imaginings, and may very well mean her impending death. What will she sacrifice for the safety of her pack and of all humanity? And worse yet, what in the WORLD is her mate up to?? Aurora continues to grow and learn to be a leader to her pack and a protector of mankind. She has transformed drastically from the unconfident and insecure woman who was first changed into a werewolf, to the radiant and dominant young 'Alpha' female that we see before us now. How much more will she change and mature before her time finally runs out? I can hardly wait to find out, even as I fear for Aurora's possibly imminent end.

Okay, I loved Mate Finder, I loved it so much I guess I got my hopes up too much. Aurora seems like a total different character, suddenly she's portrayed as this teenager, trying too hard to be sexy and sassy. Like there were some good parts, but some parts of the book felt as total fillers and felt not needed in the book at all. Like I love how there's gay shifters, but how does that all work in the finding a mate to get hooked up with so they can procreate, in that whole world they'd be an anomaly since unless they changed something big, men still can't get pregnant and thus the reason to have a mate finder is invalid.There's a few more things, but yeah in general this book sucked badly.But despite it all don't despair since book 3 is good again, Aurora is Aurora again and Kai still carries the story the most.

Definitely enjoyed this book more than the first one. The pace was a bit quicker and we delve into the pack dynamics plus Aurora is honing her skills as a witch. Dramas unfold simultaneously and Aurora discovers another secret which changes everything for her and Kai. I like the idea of reincarnation and the way it affects this story giving some pack members a second chance at love.

The only reason I did not get this book/series four stars is because (once again) I feel like authors have to throw SO MUCH onto one person shoulders/life that it makes the story just a little unbelievable (aside from the magic, lol) Great series, I love them, but come on, let SOMETHING go right in this young ladies life!

I have really enjoyed reading this series so far. It's a good read and I would recommend it to anyone. Also audible really brings the characters to life. I'm off to the next book in this series. Hope you enjoy the book as much as I did. HAPPY READING

It was better than book one, Aurora is getting more assertive and less of the loss puppy that she was previously. Hum, though I think the synopsis don't do it justice. What happen is completely different from what it says.

Book 2 didn’t disappoint! Plenty of action, familiar characters and good overcoming bad. I do love happy endings though not everyone survives. New characters were introduced very smoothly. READ THIS SERIES!
